We finally have the title and tentative release window for the next Yakuza game: Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth. RGG Studio’s game was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase, as part of the preview season beyond E3 2023.
Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth will continue the story of the series’ new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga in early 2024. So expect a game between January and April most likely.
Unlike many Xbox Games Showcase announcements, it doesn’t look like it Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth will start on the first day of Xbox Game Pass. However, most Yakuza games have been available on a subscription service, so it’s likely that this latest one will eventually be too.
Funnily enough, Kasuga seems to find himself washed up, completely naked, on a beach very much like Miami or California. Very uncharted territory for both him and the series in general, and I’m excited to see him end up here from the end Yakuza: Like a dragon.
The trailer has excellent pacing and finds plenty of creative ways to cover Kasuga’s private parts, be it with a newspaper, a sea snail, or a strategically placed bottle of sunscreen. Soon, passers-by notice Kasuga in his birthday suit, and RGG Studio’s signature gaiety ensues.
And… that’s all we have for full disclosure Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth, previously known in teaser form as Yakuza 8. From this original trailer, we know that both Kasuga and the main character of the series, Kiryu Kazuma, are returning. And this latest trailer not only reveals the game’s full English title, but also cements Kasuga as a returning hero.
Given that Kasuga has found himself in a whole new place, it’s unclear if the old favorites will return. Whether it be oldies like Majima and Saejima or members or party of Kasuga like Nanba and Saeko.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to Kasuga’s next chapter as well as the temporary game Like a Dragon Gaiden: The man who erased his name, which will start on November 9 this year.
