Notorious has now been revealed along with in-engine footage showcasing the tone and combat of Obsidian’s upcoming RPG at the Xbox Games Showcase.
team behind The outer worlds AND Fallout: New Vegas worked on Notorious for a while, so seeing a dark fantasy title in action was a long-awaited event for many fans. It will probably become one of the best RPGs available on Xbox Series X and PC.
A quick look at the combat reveals a mix of elemental attacks and physical damage clearly inspired by the Elder Scrolls series. As with the developer’s other titles, your choices will likely have consequences, and dialogue will be briefly presented here as well.
What’s most exciting here is the focus on firearms and other ranged weapons Notorious what distinguishes this fantasy title from others set in a similar setting. Yes swords and shields are present but also firearms which makes the game really different from Wasteland wading through Mohave and capitalist satire on The outer worlds.
First-person magic casting feels a lot like Tango Gameworks Ghostwire: Tokyo which is a change from the more rigid staff style and stoic magic of The Elder Scrolls series. It’s an interesting mix and we can’t wait to see how it all comes together next year. Let’s hope this launch window stays consistent as we’ll likely see this one release in the second period of 2024.
It’s been two years since Avowed was announced at the previous Xbox Games Show, so the chance to see the game in action was incredibly rewarding. Obsidian is one of the best developers when it comes to giving players freedom, so this upcoming game shows no signs of breaking its streak.
